How to turn off System Restore
Windows ME users:
Click Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double-click System. If the icon is not visible, click View all Control Panel options
On the Performance tab, click File System
On the Troubleshooting tab, check Disable System Restore
Click Ok
Reboot the computer when you are asked to.
Windows XP users:
Click Start
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties
On the System Restore tab, check Turn off System Restore or Turn off System Restore on all drives.
If you do not see the System Restore tab, you are not logged on as Administrator.
Click Apply
When you see the confirmation messagge, click Yes
Click Ok
